Third Professional Year

Welcome to the Clinical Department at Neelima Institute of Medical Sciences. Our department encompasses a diverse range of specialties, each dedicated to the comprehensive care of patients through a combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and clinical experiences. We prepare our students to become skilled healthcare professionals in their respective fields.

Community Medicine

Community Medicine previously called Preventive and Social Medicine, enables the student to understand disease dynamics, not only from the physical point of view but also from the social, economic and environmental perspective. The department trains the students to develop a holistic approach towards management of health of the community, giving equal importance to prevention and treatment. The National Medical Commission mandated, Family Adoption Programme has been successfully run by the Department of Community Medicine. Students adopted five families in the adopted villages, and they will be followed up on a regular basis. The department aims at creating a Community Physician out of the medical student, who can identify and manage ailments in the community through primary healthcare approach.

Forensic Medicine and Toxicology

The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the medical aspects of the law and legal aspects of practice of medicine and assessing the effects of poisons on the human body. Our faculty members educate students on forensic pathology, forensic toxicology, medico-legal documentation, and forensic aspects of clinical practice through practical training in autopsy procedures, toxicological analyses, and medico-legal case studies. Students foster skills in documentation of medico legal certificates and interpretation of the reports.

General Medicine

The Department of Medicine focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of various medical conditions affecting adult patients. Our experienced faculty members provide comprehensive training in internal medicine, including the study of common diseases, advanced diagnostic techniques, and evidence-based treatment strategies. Students gain expertise in history-taking, physical examination, interpretation of diagnostic tests, and the development of management plans for patients with a wide range of medical conditions.

Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics specializes in the healthcare of infants, children, and adolescents. Our faculty members are dedicated to nurturing the knowledge and skills required for the diagnosis, management, and prevention of pediatric diseases through a combination of classroom teaching, clinical rotations, and hands-on experience. Students gain proficiency in child healthcare, growth monitoring, immunizations, and the management of common pediatric conditions.

Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy

Deals with skin, hair and nail diseases, sexually transmitted diseases and leprosy. Our faculty members provide comprehensive training in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of various dermatological conditions. Students acquire skills in performing skin examinations, conducting diagnostic procedures, and providing appropriate therapeutic interventions for patients with skin disorders.

Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases

Our faculty will do pulmonary interventions like diagnostic and therapeutic thoracocentesis, Tube thoracostomy , pig tail insertion for pleural effusion / hemothorax/ pneumothorax.
Our faculty is also trained in interventional pulmonary procedures like bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, Cryotherapy, rigid bronchoscopy.
Our faculty will diagnose and treat all respiratory disorders like obstructive lung diseases(asthma, copd), restrictive lung diseases, pleural and mediastinal diseases, sleep disorders, lung malignancy, lung infections and critical care.

Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental health disorders. Our faculty members provide comprehensive training in psychiatric evaluation, psychotherapy, and pharmacotherapy. Students gain insights into various psychiatric conditions, learn to assess patients’ mental health, and develop skills in formulating comprehensive management plans that encompass both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.

General Surgery

The Department of Surgery encompasses various surgical specialties, including general surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, urology, laparoscopic surgery and plastic surgery. Our faculty members impart comprehensive knowledge of surgical principles, operative techniques, and perioperative care. Students gain expertise in surgical procedures, including preoperative evaluation, surgical techniques, and postoperative management. They develop skills in wound management, suturing, and patient care in the surgical setting.

OTO-Rhinolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat)

The Department of OTO-Rhinolaryngology focuses on the diagnosis and management of disorders related to the ear, nose, and throat. Our faculty members provide comprehensive training in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions such as ear infections, nasal disorders, and throat conditions. Students acquire skills in performing ear examinations, nasal endoscopies, and basic surgical procedures related to the ear, nose, throat & also ENT emergencies ( Foreign bodies in ENT, Facial trauma, Epistaxis).

Ophthalmology

The Department of Ophthalmology specializes in the diagnosis and management of eye disorders. Our faculty members provide comprehensive training in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of various eye conditions, including refractive errors, cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic retinopathy. Students gain skills in conducting visual acuity tests, examining the eye using ophthalmic instruments, and managing common eye disorders.

Orthopedics

The Department of Orthopedics focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal conditions. Our faculty members provide comprehensive training in the evaluation of orthopedic disorders, interpretation of imaging studies, and surgical and non-surgical treatment modalities. Students gain expertise in performing orthopedic examinations, applying casts and splints, and assisting in orthopedic surgeries.

Obstetrics & Gynecology

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology specializes in the healthcare of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and reproductive years. Our faculty members provide comprehensive training in prenatal care, labor management, gynecological examinations, and family planning. Students gain hands-on experience in conducting deliveries, assisting in gynecological surgeries, and providing comprehensive care for women at different stages of life.

Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology focuses on providing anesthesia services for surgical procedures and pain management. Our faculty members train students in preoperative evaluation, selection of appropriate anesthesia techniques, and the administration of anesthesia during surgical procedures. Students acquire skills in monitoring vital signs, managing airways, and ensuring patient safety during anesthesia.

Radio-Diagnosis

The Department of Radio-Diagnosis specializes in the use of imaging techniques to diagnose and treat various diseases. Our faculty members provide comprehensive training in interpreting radiographic images, including X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, and MRI scans. Students gain expertise in identifying abnormalities, assessing disease progression, and formulating appropriate management plans based on imaging findings.

Radiotherapy

The Department of Radiotherapy focuses on the treatment of cancer using radiation therapy techniques. Our faculty members provide comprehensive training in the principles of radiation oncology, treatment planning, and delivery of radiation therapy. Students gain insights into the use of various radiation modalities, such as external beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy, for the treatment of different types of cancers. They also learn about the management of side effects and the multidisciplinary approach to cancer care.

Dentistry

The Department of Dentistry specializes in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of oral health conditions. Our faculty members provide comprehensive training in various dental procedures, including oral examinations, restorative dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery. Students gain hands-on experience in dental procedures, patient management, and oral health promotion.
